ABSTRACT

Part III examines technological and behaviour change for performance improvements. Largely it is the general belief that the task of retrofitting is to replace existing technologies with ‘new’ green technology to improve energy performance. However, the improvements in the building performance have largely been directed at improving profitability through greater efficiency in the machinery used. The benefits of efficiency for environmental benefits have been largely ignored. A central question addressed in Part III is, what are the different factors that should be considered when engaging in sustainable retrofitting from design through to operation to renovation?
