ABSTRACT

In recent years, “sustainability” has become a widely used term, and environmental design has become more prevalent and broadly implemented. This trend has been accompanied by a shift in design at the building scale. Environmental design and sustainable buildings have become commonplace, and some cities require new construction to surpass a specified sustainability baseline. Sustainability rating systems such as LEED® have played a significant role in this process, educating citizens, providing a means to quantify sustainability at the building scale, and facilitating the adoption of sustainable design.
