Championing the teaching and learning of multiplication
This chapter aims to develop your subject knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and skills of supporting colleagues in the area of multiplication by:
1 exploring mathematical connections between multiplication and other mathematical ideas and contexts and identifying the key ideas of multiplication;
2 considering aspects of using and applying knowledge and skills of multiplication;
3 identifying how children’s learning of multiplication progresses through from the Early Years and into Key Stage 3;
4 identifying aspects of pedagogy designed to ensure children understand multiplication fully; including key aspects of multiplication to assess in children’s learning, tasks which focus on using and applying and understanding multiplication, and effective resources and representations;
5 considering examples of how you can support your colleagues in this area.
