ABSTRACT

Media disseminate information about education to the public and sell their products to schools. Media, as the term is used in this chapter, include movies, television, radio, newspapers, the Internet, and software. Media extend the education-industrial complex into the home. Concerned about school success parents buy education products or have their children view educational television programs that contain advertisements. Television and the Internet advertising accompanying educational television turn children into consumers. With education media the home is “curricularized” and turned into an extension of the school.
