ABSTRACT
In a very real sense, museums are able to inspire people and enhance the quality of their lives. They can play an important role in developing a sense of identity and community cohesion for the areas in which they are located. Of particular importance are the opportunities that museums have to engage with those who are socially or physically disadvantaged, through special programmes built around their collections.
