ABSTRACT

Third, it is important to make sure that enough time is available to carry out the research. A major exhibition in a large museum may involve two or three people researching for two or three years: a major exhibition or permanent display should be thought of like a scholarly book. Even displays for a small gallery in a small museum require some weeks’ or months’ research. Every new display or temporary exhibition should be based on the most accurate and up-to-date information possible, whoever the audience is to be. There is never any excuse for inaccuracy in museum displays, any more than in a published book.
