ABSTRACT

New media have helped in many ways to change the ways in which museums think of their audiences and their relationship with those audiences. New media are altering the ways in which museums:

■ perceive their audiences – from local to global

■ connect with their audiences – through time and space

■ interact with their audiences – from one-way to two-way

■ develop new audiences – through creative engagement and participation

■ target their audiences – from the general to the individual.
