How can museums make sure that everyone feels able, and is able, to make use of the services they offer? There are all sorts of reasons why people may not visit (they are sometimes called ‘barriers to access’), and it is well worth spending time trying to discover what those barriers are, and how they can be removed. Some of these barriers are physical – disabilities of various types – and some are social, financial, cultural or psychological: we considered some of them in Unit 8.
