ABSTRACT
Sustainability as a concept incorporates three equally weighted elements: economy, society and environment (see Unit 5). To design, build and run a building to more sustainable standards requires reflection and emphasis on all three aspects. Unit 80 covers sustainable management and maintenance of museum buildings, and this unit focuses on the sustainable design, construction and refurbishment of buildings. Both areas are increasingly coming into focus in the museums’ sector.
