ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the situations where there is a binary dependent variable (DV). Examples of such DVs include whether an individual will or will not drop out of college, contract a certain disease, or vote in the next election. Logistic regression is appropriate when the DV is nominal and the independent variables (IVs) are metric. If the nominal DV is dichotomous, binary logistic regression can be used. As will be discussed in the next chapter, when the DV contains more than two categories, multinomial logistic or ordinal regression is applicable.
