Scott Mooney and David Posada, classmates at the University of Oregon
and intern architects working for different Portland architectural firms, decided to
enter the competition together. Another intern architect, Kathy Bush, was part of
the design team early on, but had to pull back due to other commitments. Working
at different firms meant that much of the work on the competition entry occurred
outside of normal office hours. Working nights and weekends, the two developed
a design proposal that aimed to exceed the competition brief and target LEED for
Homes Platinum certification, which they submitted in April.
