ABSTRACT

On many occasions an action, decision, or judgment depends on a prior condition. For instance, you may buy ten more lottery tickets if you win one. Or perhaps you decide not to buy any more tickets once you win $100. Or watching a news report of someone having bought a lucky ticket at one of your neighborhood stores, you might think, “Had I bought a ticket there, I could have turned into a millionaire.” The bold parts of these examples are CONDITIONAL CLAUSES. In this unit, we will study different types of conditional clauses and their usage in Japanese.
