Cliff Holt was keen to be involved in the research and had heard about it at one of the residents' association meetings. Sarah's notes on her first interview with Cliff describe how she felt uncomfortable with him at first, but that her impression of him changed as they both relaxed:
When I rang the bell the door was opened try an elderly woman in a blue overall. At first I thought I must have gone to the wrong house but she invited me in with a slightly quizzical look on her face and went to the bottom of the stairs to call Cliff.
