ABSTRACT

I was born on Empire Day, 1932 which was May 24th. I was born in a place where most Jews were born. I suspect if you go back to all the well-known Jews in the country asking them where they were born it would be the same place, a Jewish maternity home called Mother Levi's in Underwood Street which is just off the Whitechapel Road. It is now a pukka Jewish maternity home in Stoke Newington, a very good one. For the first two or three years, my parents lived in a number of streets in the East End. I can't remember which streets they were and certainly can't remember at first-hand having lived there.
