ABSTRACT

This book is particularly aimed at student teachers but we hope that it will also be useful to teachers as they continue their careers. It is intended as a collection of practical advice and suggestions which can support you in developing as a teacher of mathematics. Each of the twelve chapters briefly considers just one aspect of teaching mathematics today. The authors have all drawn on their own considerable experience and teaching to offer lots of practical advice and suggestions which you can use in your own classroom. In this way they also draw on the theory and background which is more fully explained in Learning to Teach Mathematics in the Secondary School (3rd edition). This companion volume explores the topics and issues raised in this book in more depth, and is recommended here as further reading in the first instance.
