ABSTRACT

More schools than ever are actively promoting strong links with the parents of their children and the community served by the school. Not only in the traditional areas of Parent-Teacher fund-raising and social activities but also in significant areas of the curriculum. For example, here is an extract from a booklet for parents (Waterland, 1985), reproduced by kind permission, designed to encourage and sustain parents in the partnership of developing children’s reading habits, skills and enjoyment. The extract is not intended as a blueprint for others, since each school must design its own communications for parents, depending on particular circumstances and context.
