ABSTRACT

In 1953, Eisenhower was President and in the position to enact his vision of the national security policy, but before he could implement his vision he had to end the war in Korea. On 27 July 1953, an armistice agreement was signed ending three years of bloody war. Eisenhower and his Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, believed that the threatened use of the atomic bomb brought the Chinese to the peace table and to their acceptance of terms very similar to those previously offered during the Truman Administration.
