ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on approaches to sustainable design and the manufacture of fashion garments. As fashion designers become aware of environmentally friendly fibres and sustainable textile solutions, the real challenge for the designer and the production team is to find ways to engage with sustainable strategies within their design and production process. The ideas and thoughts discussed within this chapter aim to challenge the conventional notion of how fashion garments are currently created and instead argue for alternative processes for designing and making clothes. Specifically the chapter focuses on how, where and what sustainable strategies the designer and the broader production team can utilize in the making of fashion garments.
