ABSTRACT

The project discussed in this chapter aims at investigating the kind of professional responsibility assumed by teachers towards different aspects of their teaching activities, and the effect that the perspectives of accountability existing around them may have on them. One of the aspects considered in the study is an analysis of the legitimacy of power and authority within institutional structures, together with the degree of responsibility conferred on and assumed by different groups within the system: inspectors, parents, teachers, etc. and the effect they may have on teachers’ conceptions of themselves and their work.
