Later European Views

The history of Europe from the time of Martin Luther demonstrates the value that Western cultures and societies have placed on music. Philosophers, clerics, politicians, educators, and other historically significant figures have left testimony of why their people needed to be musically educated. In some cases, their writings even prescribe the methods of music education. Many of the reasons for the strong European musical cultures that exist today can be found in these readings.
