ABSTRACT

Are people there to make organizations happy or are organizations there to make people happy? Some authors in the field of human resource development (HRD) seem to argue for the former. This chapter puts forward the proposition that the latter is especially true, which has implications for what HRD should be about. HRD refers to organizing individual and collective learning processes aimed at the development of both employees and the organization as a whole.
