Electronic coastal and marine atlases

This chapter examines some of the origins and the evolution of Internet or Web-based coastal and marine atlases, and online mapping and WebGIS. Using some of the early marine atlases, first available in the 1990s, as the earliest examples of electronic atlases that became widely available, the chapter then explores a number of different recent web-based equivalents.
