ABSTRACT

Many prominent athletes and coaches believe that although sport is played with the body, it is won in the mind (see Figure 1.1). This idea applies both to individual and to team sports. To illustrate, consider what Tiger Woods, one of the greatest golfers in the history of the game, said about the importance of the mental side of the game:

You have to keep pushing yourself from within. It’s not about what other people think and what other people say. It’s about what you want to accomplish and do you want to go out there and be prepared to beat everyone you play or face?
