Unfinished Agenda, 1954-1984

Thirty years is the conventional span of a generation, and a whole generation has now passed since Mallon ceased to be Warden of Toynbee Hall. And if time is measured less precisely in terms of perpetually overlapping generations, this particular span of thirty years has encompassed probably greater changes in society and culture than any which had preceded it. At times there has been so much contrast between generations that the gulf between ages has been stressed even more than the gulf between classes.
