ABSTRACT

Precision agriculture (PA) in its various forms can have many benefits for the profitability and sustainability of agriculture and of the environment. However, farmers are yet to be fully convinced that these benefits generally outweigh the costs of implementing PA technology and this has hindered the rate of adoption. The profitability of PA is location-specific because of differences in the soil, management and climate (Lowenberg-DeBoer, 2000). It also varies according to the value of the crop. Therefore, economic analyses are required to determine when PA is worthwhile.
