Planning the itinerary

By the end of this chapter the reader should be able to define the cruise destination, identify critical factors relating to the designing of a cruise itinerary, examine different methods for analysing and evaluating destinations, understand the reasons why ports and destinations are successful for cruises, and consider operations and planning for shore excursions or tours. Previous chapters have reflected on travel geography [1] coupled seasonality and optimum conditions for cruising, as well as sales and marketing and the supply and servicing of ships, as important factors in the planning of an itinerary. This chapter will examine options for analysing destinations themselves.
