ABSTRACT

In this chapter I am going to suggest ways in which therapists can manage communications that have to be made by letter or telephone. If we remember that the frame is the container for the process of therapy, then it is clear that anything occurring outside it is not part of that process. This is not to say that contacts or communications external to therapy are wrong in any moral sense, but they will have consequences and we should be aware of this. The aim should be to try to get back to the agreed framework and it is with this in mind that I am going to discuss letters and telephone calls.
