ABSTRACT

In this chapter five ethical principles are discussed: autonomy, fidelity, justice, beneficence and nonmaleficence. The three values of integrity, impartiality and respect are taken as the basis from which to explore training situations where there are ethical or professional issues. Issues related to integrity include: competence of the counsellor trainer; using informed consent; holding boundaries; handling conflicting interests. Issues related to impartiality include: bias; awareness training; disadvantage and discrimination. Issues related to respect include: confidentiality and vulnerability.
