ABSTRACT

Since schools are dependent for finance upon the numbers of parents who choose to send their children to them, it is essential that governors take seriously the building of a public image in the local community. Some governing bodies have a marketing committee which supports the efforts of the headteacher and staff in making the school known to parents in the locality but whether support is provided by a marketing committee or by some other group, governors must think about how the school sells itself. Even governors of a school which is the only one in the area cannot afford to neglect the school’s external relationships.
