This well-worn phrase signifying that filming can commence takes into consideration a couple of the technical areas involved in a production – lights and cameras – but ignores the sound crew and several other crucial people along the way. Maybe the phrase was first coined in the silent era. Whatever, there are many more technical jobs to be done before anyone has the right to shout ‘Action!’.
