ABSTRACT

Most people assume that we pay – we the viewing public. They assume that we pay our licence fees and that this money goes towards the making of the programmes – in the case of the BBC at least. With ITV they presume that we pay a little bit over the odds for every item we buy in the shops and every service we pay for so that the people who provide these goods and services can advertise them on television – and the money they pay ITV for these advertisements goes towards the making of the programmes we watch. So we pay for the programmes. Don’t we?
