Russian multinationals grow and expand In a mere flash of history, Russia has become a major outward-investing country on the global stage. The volume of its registered OFDI increased from US$2 billion in 1993 to US$203 billion in 2008, making it the second-largest among emerging economies behind Hong Kong (US$776 billion in 2008). Russian MNEs hold more assets abroad than Brazil (US$162 billion), China (US$148 billion) and India (US$62 billion) (see Table 1.5).
