Boundaries of Russian MNEs
In this chapter the problems and failures of Russia’s OFDI will be discussed. The causes have to do with the size of the investing firm and the scale of management’s expectations. Two sections below will showcase two extreme examples. The first, the attempt of a Russian group headed by Sberbank to acquire the car manufacturer Opel, involves a deal so large that has implications for the future of the entire industry. The other is the story of an industry dwarf, the Japanese cuisine restaurant Two Sticks, that wants to grow.
