ABSTRACT

How can we enhance the image of our school to meet the demands of an ever competitive situation in such a way that we remain true to our values for the education of young children? As an acting headteacher of a multi-ethnic first school in an outer London Borough I worked over the period from July 1991 to January 1992 to execute an action research project of which this was my main aim. I became acting head because the head had taken early retirement and the deputy was due to start maternity leave; the post was advertised for one term only until the school could set in motion procedures for appointing a new head.
