ABSTRACT
Given my substantive focus thus far, the inclusion of a chapter on nurses and patients might seem a surprising addition to this book. Yet, as with its internal division of labour and its relationships with other occupational groups, nursing jurisdiction is, to a considerable extent, shaped by the boundary of its work with that of patients and this, like other interfaces within the wider societal division of labour, is also affected by historical and political factors.
