ABSTRACT

Freedom to Learn – the title alone of Rogers’ (1983) book gives hope for me. The very word freedom presents such a strong image. I see a vast expanse of countryside which offers freedom to wander, to create my own picture, to walk wherever I choose, to change paths, to explore, to recreate, to find somewhere that suits, to feel comfortable, challenged, to feel myself. Freedom: to create variety, change style, colour, to dip in and out, to stay longer or to move quickly on, to choose different textures, make different things, freedom to be me. Freedom to be me has been at the heart of my own struggle to train and qualify as a counsellor.
