ABSTRACT

The reader, or skimmer, is owed a ®nal summing up. The approach adopted in this book has been determined by the following underlying premises (see also Richards (2002), for a fuller position statement):

· Psychology as a discipline is a product of the `psychologies' of those within it. It is therefore necessarily re¯exive in character. The Psychological knowledge it produces directly articulates and expresses the psychological character of the psychologists producing itÐtheir ways of thinking, their priorities, attitudes, values, and so on.
