ABSTRACT
The Coptic version of the Gospel of Thomas consists of 114 sayings written in excellent Sahidic Coptic, a dialect of Egyptian. This Gospel continued to be translated and published from the time of its composition (c. 100-110CE) until this final, known Coptic version was produced in the fourth century CE. The Greek fragments and the existence of this Coptic version attest to this history of its translation and production. We are fortunate that whoever hid it in jars in the desert near Nag Hammadi thought it worthy of preservation.
