ABSTRACT

The story of Olympic education in Canada is a fragmented one because of geographic and cultural factors. Thus, the Olympic education initiatives to be discussed are not grounded in a unified theory or concept of Olympism or Olympic education. Instead the initiatives arose out of specific situations in very different segments of the Canadian educational and sport systems. Nevertheless, there is a common thread that links the initiatives – they all strive to integrate the basic values of Olympism with the lifeworlds of their various target audiences – in sport, in academic seminars and in classrooms.
