ABSTRACT
At the tip of the Malay Peninsula, just 137 km north of the equator, is the main island of the Republic of Singapore, a 710 km2 city-state with a population of 5.31 million. To the north is Malaysia; to the south and west, across the Singapore Strait, is the Republic of Indonesia.
