ABSTRACT

The next two chapters will explore two areas of research where theorists have tried to modify Foucault’s work on discourse: in both of these areas (in this chapter, feminist theory, and in the next chapter, colonial and post-colonial discourse theory) theorists have tried to make the concept of discourse work to serve political ends, and thus they have had to strive to make some of the political potential of the theorising of discourse more overt than Foucault did.
