ABSTRACT

Traditionally, the ability of coaches to prescribe training load so as to optimize performance was the product of many years of experience (Borresen and Lambert, 2008). However, due to recent advances in the field of sport science the use of new technologies can now provide more specific information about workload, thereby facilitating the attainment of optimum performance (Barris and Button, 2008). The quantification of training load is therefore a key aspect when it comes to assessing the extent to which the objectives set prior to training have been met, and also enables this load to be modulated according to the period or phase of activity.
