ABSTRACT
Until recently, this field was known just as information technology (IT) in the UK, and some of our references to previous studies and documents will thus use the term IT. There is no real difference in the meaning. The C for Communications has been added to the National Curriculum subject title in England in order to emphasise the dramatic rise in significance of networked services. For simplicity, we will also use ICT to refer to the subject and key skill at KS4 (Key Stage 4) and beyond.
