La Creevy, Miss (NN) A ‘mincing young lady of fifty’, who is a miniature painter. Mrs Nickleby, Nicholas and Kate lodge with her in the Strand on their arrival in London. She was a ‘little bustling, active, cheerful creature’ and the ‘nicest lady’ Smike had ever seen. She is a kind and faithful friend to the Nicklebys, and eventually marries Tim Linkinwater. Ladle, Joey (CS) The Head Cellarman at Wilding and Co., Wine Merchants. He was a ‘slow and ponderous man, of the drayman order of human architecture’. He becomes Marguerite’s devoted servant, accompanies her to Switzerland, and helps to rescue Vendale from Obenreizer’s attempt to kill him. (‘No Thoroughfare’)

Lady Jane (BH) Krook’s fierce, grey cat, with a ‘wicked mouth’. (5, 10, 11, 14, 20, 32, 33)
