ABSTRACT

We have described Bruce and Young’s (1986) model of face processing in detail in Chapter 3. This model can be distinguished from speech production models on one important point: lexical access is a single stage process in this model while most speech production models include two stages of lexical access. Considering that face naming is nothing but a particular case of speech production, Brédart and Valentine (1992) have tried to make a link between face processing models and speech production models, and have proposed a revision of Bruce and Young’s model. Before describing this revision it is necessary to present a brief review of current psycholinguistic theories of lexical access.
