ABSTRACT

The norm when undertaking research is now to utilise various types of information media, such as computers, the World Wide Web, digital technology, and so on. We live in what has been termed the ‘Telematic’ age. In fact, the websites recommended by the librarian only produced a few insights, such is the nature of the Web at times. In late 1999, there were about 9.5 million websites; by early 2000, this had grown to over 11 million. According to Taylor (2000): ‘Most are dross or just irrelevant but more and more are informed, fascinating and probably just what you need to engage children and students.’ Clearly, the practice of using electronic technology is rapidly becoming a very important force in education.
