ABSTRACT

On a fundamental level, early childhood education constitutes a highly appropriate forum for the exploration of futures issues. Its positioning at the commencement of formal education provides it with the critical role of introducing children to learning concepts and principles that will remain with them throughout their formal education. Early childhood professionals are thus faced with the challenge of laying the philosophical foundations necessary for the acquisition of skills, abilities and attitudes that will enable the young children in their charge to negotiate successfully the education system as a whole.
