ABSTRACT

This chapter considers global careers within and outside Turkey. First, it explores the careers of Turkish nationals, with a specific focus on their desire for, and experiences of, pursuing global careers outside of Turkey and their views of repatriation. Second, it explores the career experiences of expatriates in Turkey. In doing so, it provides an understanding of global careers where Turkey is either the “home” country or the “host” country. At the end of the chapter, we will introduce a more critical perspective of global careers in Turkey and discuss the implications for policymakers and individual “global careerists.” In order to ensure that the chapter is appropriately contextualized, however, we will begin with a discussion of Turkey’s current economy and labor market.
