ABSTRACT

Coffee is one of the major agricultural products in Rwanda, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the country's exports. The Government of Rwanda is following a proactive policy of strengthening the supply chain, based on a quality strategy. The main focus of the policy currently pursued in the coffee sector is thus to improve the quality of production in order to position coffees of Rwanda on the high-quality, specialty coffee market. This strategy is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture on the one hand, but also by OCIR-Café (Office des Cultures Industrielles du Rwanda), or Coffee of Rwanda Development Authority, which assists in this process.
