Public men in the malestream

The ‘public’ and ‘publicness’ are everywhere. In this chapter I look critically at some of the ways in which the ‘public’ element in ‘public men’ has been formulated. Following an initial discussion of the problem presented by the social sciences in analysing the element of the ‘public’ in ‘public men’, I consider some major contributions of the malestream to this question.
